Ate last night with my friend Kyle at the new Scotty's Brew House on the Wabash levee in West Lafayette, Indiana. The chain is based solely in the Hoosier state with other restaurants in Bloomington and Muncie.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere in the place wasn't bad, prominently featured large (42 inch) Fujitsu plasma screens and light decoration (jazz artist hang on the walls around the place.). Hard to judge how large the bar in the place actually was, but it's clear that this is actually more of a restaurant anyhow. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it an 8.
Food
We started with some deep fried pickle chips. As strange as it sounds they weren't half-bad, sort of a tangy taste to them. had the Guinness steak and cheese wrap with dirty rice. The wrap was pretty good. Kyle had the "mo-fo" chicken (hot) and said it was a "jerky" style spicy that hit about the medium setting on the BW3 sauce rating. Overall menu looked pretty diverse, with a few special (read no-bread) Atkin's friendly options. I would rate the food about a 7.5 .
Drink
We came expecting to find either a) a microbrewery, or b) a place that featured a number of diverse microbrews that had been shipped in. Unfortunately we found neither. Beer menu was rather pedestrian, nothing that was really out of the ordinary although a number of built in combinations (black&tan/black&blue). Beer comes in three sizes: 16oz, 32oz, and I think a 64oz. Disappointed because it didn't live up to my expectations but a decent selection rating a strong 7.5.
Overall
I would certainly return and the place with likely do a great business locally because of its location. Price was a little high with my dinner and drinks running about $24. Overall rating is a 7.8
